Quinces on the Kitchen Sill

Today’s mural

Quinces on the Kitchen Sill

The quinces have been simmering since dawn and now sit in a row along the sill to cool, lumpy and golden and stubborn. The paste will set by Sunday. Until then, the whole corridor smells faintly of honey, and everyone finds a reason to walk down it.

How to play

  1. 1

Place. Drag a tile from the tray onto the wall. Drop it on another tile to swap them.

  2. 2

Turn. Tap a tile to rotate it a quarter turn clockwise.

  3. 3

Restore. A tile in its right place, the right way up, glints. Fill the wall to finish.

The small mural on the side shows what you’re rebuilding. Tap it to see it larger. Once the wall is full, a clue can point out a tile that’s wrong. Tiles that look identical are interchangeable. On a keyboard: arrows to move, Enter to turn, Space to pick up and put down, Delete to send a tile back to the tray.

A cozy puzzle, once a day

Azulo Daily is a small, calm tile puzzle. Every day there is one new blue-and-white mural, painted in the style of Portuguese azulejos: the glazed ceramic tiles that line the walls of cloisters, chapels, railway stations and old houses across Portugal. The panel arrives in pieces: forty-five tiles on a shelf, shuffled and turned the wrong way. Put it back together at your own pace. There is no countdown, and nothing is lost if you walk away and come back.

Everyone gets the same mural and the same scramble on the same day, so you can compare times with a friend. A new mural arrives at midnight, your local time. It’s free, with no sign-up and nothing to install.

Questions

When does the puzzle change?
At midnight, wherever you are.
Does it save my progress?
Yes, in this browser. Close the tab and your tiles stay where you left them.
Can I replay a mural?
Yes. Once it’s restored, Replay deals the same tiles again, and Start over does the same partway through. Your first restore is the one you share and the one that counts for your streak; your best replay is shown beside it.
Is there more to play?
Azulo Monastery has thirty murals across six acts, on iPhone, iPad and Android. No ads, and it works offline.

Azulo Daily

Mural restored

A blue-and-white azulejo mural of golden quinces lined up to cool on a tiled monastery kitchen sill beside a copper pan of quince paste, a basket of quinces and a halved quince on a chopping board, a bread oven, hanging herbs, garlic and ladles, and cypress trees beyond the window.
